Collagen induction therapy, also known as microneedling, is one of our most requested treatments. It is excellent for treating acne scars, stretch marks, trauma scars, wrinkles, large pores, uneven skin tone and scalp hair loss. This in-office procedure opens up thousands of tiny channels in the skin to allow delivery of cosmaceuticals such as hyaluronic acid, epidermal growth factors and stem cells to the deeper skin layers where they can effect dramatic changes in texture, tone and color. The treatment triggers the body’s natural healing process to form collagen and elastin, and on the scalp, hair regrowth. It is an economical, effective alternative to laser resurfacing procedures with results that can rival the outcomes from these more expensive and invasive treatments!

Why have your microneedling treatment at a medical clinic vs. a “medi-spa?”

We couldn’t imagine having a microneedling treatment in a non-medical setting. To begin with, you want an evaluation of your skin health by a specialist physician prior to treatment so that you know this treatment is a good choice for you. We all want to be comfortable during a treatment, and at our clinic we use the highest concentration of physician-prescribed numbing ointment available. “Medi-spas” often do not have a medical director to oversee your treatment or to prescribe physician-strength numbing for your treatment. The treatment itself creates pin-point bleeding and requires a thorough understanding of infection control measures and equipment sterilization procedures. Dr. Tkatch is a surgeon and has 15+ years of medical training. In the rare instance that there is a complication related to your treatment, you will have immediate access to Dr. Tkatch’s expertise, rather than being told to seek medical care. So, do you really want to risk having a medical procedure with a non-medically-trained provider? If you want the safest and most effective possible treatment, choose to have your microneedling treatment in a medical clinic.

What are the advantages of Dermapen microneedling vs. lasers?

The microneedling pen is “colour-blind” and can safely be performed on darker skin tones with minimal risk of hypo- or hyper-pigmentation. Unlike laser skin resurfacing, microneedling can safely performed in the summer. Best of all, the treatments have minimal downtime and are very affordable.

What should I expect at my Dermapen microneedling appointment?

Prior to your treatment, you will have an individual consultation with Dr. Tkatch to assess your suitability and review your expected results. Every patient is prescribed a unique treatment plan to suit their skin concerns; however, most patients require 3-6 sessions spaced three weeks apart for optimal results.

At your treatment your skin will be cleansed and numbed for 30 minutes prior to treatment. Pre-treatment pictures will be taken. The treatment itself will take only 5-20 minutes depending on the area. We gently glide the micro needling pen over the skin and infuse the treatment solutions. Immediately afterwards, you may feel as if you have a mild sunburn and there will be some pinkness and slight swelling. We apply a soothing mask after all full-face treatments. You can wear high quality makeup within a few hours and even go out that evening!

Home care after Dermapen microneedling

You will be prescribed specific after-care products for your skin to speed your recovery and give you optimal results. We will give you a care call the next day and see you back in clinic to ensure your skin is healing beautifully.

Collagen induction therapy is a great choice for people wanting a significant improvement in their skin without undergoing expensive laser treatments with significant down time. You will be back at your regular activities the next day and your skin will be brighter, clearer and healthier after just one treatment! Each subsequent treatment will bring even greater skin improvement.

What does Dermapen microneedling cost?

Each treatment plan is individualized and Dr. Tkatch will give you an exact cost after your consultation. Treatments are generally delivered in a series of three and you may choose to have additional individual treatments or another series. Individual treatments cost $400-500 per session depending on the area. The fee covers your visits with the doctor, the treatment itself including numbing creams and application of hyaluronic acid and stems cells, post-procedure mask and all follow-up care. You will be delighted with the results!

Can I add platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to my microneedling treatment?

We can absolutely add PRP to your micro needling treatment to further enhance your results. In this case, your treatment will be performed by either Dr. Tkatch or her nurse, incorporating the use of the U225 dermal injector. The U225 is a high-tech instrument to quickly and painlessly deliver PRP to skin and scalp.
